What’s Wrong With My Profile?

You’re getting hardly any matches.

Does the algorithm hate you?

Are people too superficial to appreciate you?

Or is your profile putting everyone off?

Here’s the harsh truth:

No matter how clever/funny/sexy you think your profile is…

It probably isn’t.

Try this. Stand in Cashel Mall and ask attractive strangers for a minute of their time. Show them your profile – no more than a few seconds. Then ask them whether they’d swipe right.

A split second isn’t enough to browse all your profile photos.

A split second isn’t enough to read your bio.

They’re making a split-second decision based on a glance at one photo.

Is your profile photo carrying its weight?

It isn’t if it’s an image of…

A meme
An airplane
A spoon
A sunset
A cartoon character
A famous celebrity
Your pet
Your kids
Your cleavage/abs
You in a group
Your face in shadow under a baseball cap
A filtered version of you

If your real face isn’t clearly visible, people are going to assume one thing:

That you have a reason to hide it.

You’re not hiding anything, though! You just want to show people that you don’t take this dating app thing seriously. You don’t want your mates to see you’re on a dating site. You want people to fall for your inside, not your outside.

Fine. Then pay the price. You won’t get as many matches.

If you’re serious about meeting someone, take this seriously. Have a friend take pictures of you that reflect who you are when you’re happy and relaxed.

Then get someone else to pick which photos to highlight.
