Short answer:
It’s the same reason younger women want to date older men.
There is something incredibly attractive about dating someone who’s mature and has their life sorted.
They don’t expect you to take care of them. They may already have had a family and don’t want to start another one. They’re financially secure enough to enjoy the finer things in life. They know what they want (and don’t want), and aren’t afraid to communicate it.
What’s not to love?
Maturity, intelligence, and kindness consistently rank among the most desired traits in both sexes, and they’re traits that tend to develop with age.
Older singles tend to be less self-obsessed, have more experience of the world, and no longer need to prove themselves. They’re not interested in games. They’re more confident, grounded, and appreciative. That’s attractive.
Sometimes an older partner is a better fit when a younger person sees themself as “mature for their age” or “an old soul.” They simply relate to that age group better.
Attractiveness can even grow with age. A 20-something who parties and drinks may not be as physically healthy or fit as a 50-something who takes care of their body. Our physical appearance reflects our choices and our lifestyle as much as our age.
What’s not spoken about as much is the potential for large age gaps to exacerbate inequality. A younger man may expect an older woman to pay for him or give him a place to live without contributing – just as a younger woman might expect the same of an older man.
Always ensure that any relationship with a large power gap is financially equitable. Both parties should contribute equally, according to their means. The future needs to be discussed: what happens if you stay together for 3 years or more? An older person may want to protect their assets under the Property (Relationships) Act. Get legal advice and a formal contracting-out agreement if necessary.
