You’ve been out with them, and it’s clear you’re not a match.
Now you’ve got the unenviable task of letting them down gently.
What do you say?
Here are some ideas:
“Thank you for tonight. You seem like a good person. I don’t feel like this is the right fit for me, but I want to wish you the best of luck.”
“It was nice meeting you. I’m glad we got to connect, but I’m not feeling a spark. I hope you find someone awesome.”
Keep it brief. Don’t explain. End on a positive note.
If you know by the end of your first date that you won’t be pursuing this, it can be kinder to let them know then and there rather than making them wait.
You might say:
“It was nice hanging out tonight. What are you thinking? I’m feeling that the romantic connection just isn’t there.”
Unfortunately, not everyone accepts no for an answer.
If they push you for an explanation or try to convince you to change your mind, you don’t owe them a response. Bombarding you with messages after you’ve said no is a big red flag, and you may need to block them.
